Low-Ropes Course

This was built with More Kids in the Woods funding from the US Forest Service in 2013. Forest Service employees came to the school and cleared the trail and spots for each of the obstacles. The low-ropes course was built by Signature Research, Inc out of Georgia. Our partners for this outdoor classroom are US Forest  Service and Signature Research, Inc. Over the years, we have had Signature Research host training for teachers and coaches to bring out their students, players, and clubs. This course has been a tremendous asset that has helped us focus on developing leadership skills in all of our students. This outdoor classroom involves problem solving using real and imaginary ground-based obstacles: cables, ropes, and platforms between the poles, a foot or so above the ground. Some low elements are valuable for teaching teamwork and cooperation, while others are recommended for balance and concentration. All the elements help foster trust, respect, care, and concern for every person. We have chosen a variety of elements for a balanced presentation of all the skills and confidence levels in the group. There are many benefits to the existing curriculum:

● Leadership skills learned in the classroom through the “Leader in Me” will be

practiced on the course.

● Will enhance the leadership skills of the high school ambassadors.

● Will promote problem solving and critical thinking skills used in project-based

learning.

● Locally and nationally, administrators and teachers come and tour Munford

Schools to see the leadership opportunities provided to our students.

● The low ropes course is available to all the administrators, teachers, and students

of Talladega County Schools.

● Will provide a safe, fun, and challenging learning environment.
