Amphitheater & Nature Trail

Our partners for this outdoor classroom are the US Forest Service, Alabama Wildlife Federation, KronoSpan & Local Boy Scout Troop 4132.  This amphitheater is a covered outdoor classroom that seats 100 students. We have speakers from the US Forest Service, Alabama Wildlife Federation, among others, who educate our students on everything from plant and animal life to careers in the US Forest Service. Our English department uses the amphitheater for skits, plays and literature readings. The nature trail is in a 3 acre area full of hardwood and pine trees.

The US Forest Service cut the trail and provided the funding for the amphitheater. The Alabama Wildlife Federation donated the funds for the benches on the trail. KronoSpan donated the mulch for the trail. The Boy Scouts help keep the trail clear and maintained. Our Biology and environmental classes use the nature trail for scavenger hunts, plant identification and habitat recognition. The health classes use the nature trail to calculate the burning of calories in our healthy heart project. 2nd graders participate in scavenger hikes and seasonal hikes.
